The Enclave Concept
1977
NIB begins an industrial placement program that puts employees who are blind alongside their sighted colleagues. Called the enclave concept, the program is officially underway when 12 people who are blind become full-time employees of ITT Corporation in Corinth, Mississippi.
That same year, NIB forms legislative affairs and public relations departments to develop a greater presence in government and public affairs.
