Business Management Training

NIB’s Business Management Training (BMT), facilitated by University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, targets qualified, high-potential employees of NIB and NIB associated agencies who are blind, motivated to succeed in a business setting and have demonstrated leadership potential. The next BMT is slated for 2012.

Eligibility

The application process is highly competitive, requiring professional readiness to be selected. Criteria for eligibility include:

  • Career goals aligned with business and leadership
  • Performing jobs that are in line for leadership positions at NIB or an associated agency
  • Demonstrated skills in business, management and leadership
  • Mastery of computer technology and software that support business operations, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and Internet research
  • Academic background as a foundation for development
  • Ability to contribute in BMT sessions and meet all the requirements between sessions such as study, research and complete teamwork assignments.

Curriculum

Throughout the five, one-week BMT sessions, spread across 18 months, participants build critical business management and leadership skills necessary for professional development and career growth.  Classroom sessions are conducted at a facility in Metro Washington D.C.; and upon completion, participants earn a Certificate in Management.

The curriculum builds business acumen in the following topics:

  • General Management
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Production and Manufacturing
  • Human Resources Management
The BMT application process will be announced on this website and to NIB's associated agencies in 2012.
