Leadership Greater Washington Selects New Class of Leaders

NIB’s Executive Vice President Among the Class

July 25, 2011, ALEXANDRIA, VA - National Industries for the Blind’s (NIB) executive vice president, Angela Hartley, has been designated a Leadership Member of Leadership Greater Washington’s (LGW) 26th class. Ms. Hartley was competitively selected to participate in LGW’s 10-month Signature Program based on her leadership at NIB and in the greater Washington, D.C., area.  She is among a group of distinct leaders who will explore and discuss regional issues at various sites across the Washington, D.C., area.

The Selection Committee is comprised of a diverse group of active LGW members who remain anonymous during the process and are driven by the goal of maintaining LGW's role as a regional organization based on leadership, professional experience, community involvement, geographic designation, ethnicity, industry specialty and other aspects.

“We are extremely proud to see Angela recognized by her peers as a leader in the community.  She is a respected member of the NIB management team and staff and has significantly demonstrated her leadership over the past several years,” stated Kevin A. Lynch, president and CEO of NIB.

Since joining the organization in 2002, Ms. Hartley has served in several leadership roles at NIB.  In her current position as Executive Vice President, she works to increase awareness of and support for the mission of NIB. During her NIB career, Ms. Hartley has led diverse initiatives and assumed new challenges throughout the company in the areas of government relations, corporate communications, strategic planning and direction, marketing, fundraising and program development. Ms. Hartley started at NIB as Director - External Affairs, was promoted to Vice President - Communications and Public Affairs and later to Vice President, External Affairs and Public Policy, before assuming her current position. Ms. Hartley’s accomplishments at NIB include consolidating public relations and marketing functions to drive consistent messaging; expanding the organization’s involvement and reach in government affairs; strengthening the network of contacts, coalitions and partnerships with associated agencies; and partnering with nonprofit agencies to implement a management training program for high-potential emerging professionals.

Ms. Hartley is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and holds a Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate from Georgetown University. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and was admitted to the Maryland Bar. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Perdue School of Business, Salisbury University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas, El Paso. Ms. Hartley is a member of the American Bar Association, Public Relations Society of America, American Society of Association Executives and Women in Government Relations.
