Heather Lyons, General Counsel, joined National Industries for the Blind in 2010. In her role, Ms. Lyons oversees NIB’s legal and regulatory affairs group, and is responsible for both shaping and executing legal strategy. Ms. Lyons also runs NIB’s corporate compliance and ethics program; oversees NIB’s regulatory affairs group, which provides support, training, and technical assistance to NIB’s associated nonprofit agencies in meeting compliance obligations as government contractors and as AbilityOne Program participants; and serves as the organization’s chief compliance officer.
Prior to joining NIB, Ms. Lyons was an associate with a large international law firm in Washington, D.C., specializing in litigation, primarily involving intellectual property, cross-border antitrust issues, and white collar criminal defense. She is an active member of both the Virginia and District of Columbia Bars.
A native of Hampton, Virginia, and a first-generation college graduate, Ms. Lyons earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics as a Trustee Scholar at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She earned a master of arts, also in economics, from Virginia Tech and received her juris doctorate magna cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she was manuscripts editor of the University of Richmond Law Review and recipient of the T.C. Williams Scholarship.
Active in the Northern Virginia community, Ms. Lyons currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Residences, Inc. Foundation, which supports a nonprofit devoted to providing housing and other services to people with a wide range of disabilities in Virginia and Maryland.
